Raid Train vs. Seller Showcase on Whatnot: What's the Difference?
If you're a seller on Whatnot, you've probably heard the terms "Raid Train" and "Seller Showcase" thrown around. While they may sound similar, they’re actually two very different ways to participate in community-based selling events. Understanding the difference can help you decide which is right for you — or when to take advantage of both!
Let’s break it down:
What is a Raid Train?
A Raid Train is a coordinated sequence of live shows on Whatnot where each seller signs up for a specific time slot. When one show is finished, the seller raids into the next seller scheduled and so on and so on... causing a train of sellers. Sellers will get exposed to new buyers when they get raided and they expose the next seller on the "train" to new buyers when you raid into them.
Key Features of a Raid Train:
Sellers sign up for a set time.
Each person is expected to know who they are raiding into and when.
Events usually follow a specific theme and rules.
Shows are tightly scheduled, with sellers typically going live 5 minutes before their slot.
The flow is continuous and organized to keep viewers engaged.
Raid Trains are perfect for experienced sellers who want to tap into a high-energy, scheduled event that draws in a large group of buyers looking for a specific type of item.
What is a Seller Showcase?
Seller Showcases offer a more laid-back alternative. Just like a Raid Train, sellers need to sign up in advance — but there are no real assigned time slots.
Key Features of a Seller Showcase:
Sellers can go live at any time during the day.
No set time slots — stay on as long as you want.
Must still follow the event’s theme and rules.
You’ll raid into another seller who’s part of the same showcase, but you choose who.
Sellers can host multiple shows throughout the day.
Showcases are great for newer sellers or those who want flexibility while still being part of a themed selling event.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: If I’m in a Raid Train, can I go live before my spot? A: Yes — usually about five minutes early to prep and get settled. Just make sure you're following the host's rules.
Q: What do you mean by “stay within the theme”? A: Both Raid Trains and Showcases are typically themed. If the event is focused on "Ceramic Animals," stick to that! Showing unrelated items can confuse or drive away potential buyers.
Q: I scheduled a 10AM slot but can’t make it — what should I do? A: If you're in a Raid Train, contact the host ASAP so they can adjust the schedule. If you're in a Seller Showcase, you can simply skip it or go live at another time — no problem!
Q: What if I’m new? Which one should I do?
A: Start with a Seller Showcase. There's less pressure and no scheduling stress. Once you've sold 100+ items, you’ll feel more confident jumping into your first Raid Train.
